Analysers: Myths Vs Reality – Myth #3

It is a myth that interchangeable sensors mean you don’t need to replace sensors as they don’t die. The reality is that interchangeable sensors do still have a lifetime and will need changing:

Sensors also have a much shorter shelf life if not installed in the instrument as they require small amounts of charge to keep them primed.

Using interchangeable sensors, you may not see the sensor die off as you are changing them out regularly, however typically with interchangeable sensors you are paying a premium for the sensor over a traditional calibration and periodic replacement.

In most analysers typical life span of a sensor is:

SF6        4-5 years in analyser

H2O      4-5 years in analyser

SO2       2 years in analyser, typically 6 months on shelf

HF         2 years in analyser, typically 2 months on shelf

CO        2 years in analyser, typically 6 months on shelf

H2S      2 years in analyser, typically 6 months on shelf

The EMT Way:

EMT analysers are based on Infra-Red (IR) sensing technology.

Our latest Zerowaste Eco+ 4in1 SF6 and SF6 alternative analyser has the latest version of this sensing platform allowing us to achieve the following sensor life:

SF6        Lifetime: never needs changing

H2O      Lifetime: never needs changing

SO2       5 years

HF         Lifetime: never needs changing

CO         5 years

H2S       5 years
